Some groups on the opposing sides who offer only complaints: The government is proceeding with the job of financial revitalization.

At the budget last week, the correct decisions were taken for Britain, reducing energy expenses with a £150 reduction in charges, safeguarding the health service and tackling the scourge of child poverty by removing the two-child limit. We also ensured that the funds collected through taxes was done fairly, with all paying their share but those with the greatest capacity bearing an appropriate burden.

Because of the policies implemented, the budget fostered greater economic stability, driving down inflation and government bond yields. This is vital for protecting our public services, when a tenth of all expenditures by government goes on borrowing costs.

Expanding Economic Measures

The announcement strengthens the action we have already taken to improve the economy: allocating £120 billion in additional funding in such things as transportation and power infrastructure; introducing significant overhaul measures in a generation to support developers, not obstructionists; promoting the development of Heathrow and Gatwick; and establishing trading partnerships with the EU, India and the US.

Taken together, these have allowed us to outperform our expansion estimates.

Revitalizing Our Country

As I set out at the party conference, the government’s purpose is precisely the renewal of our commercial landscape, our neighborhoods and our nation. By doing that, we will stop degradation and rebuild trust in our country.

We will challenge those on the political extremes who only offer complaints and whose approach would lead to additional deterioration. Let me be clear, turning on the borrowing taps or returning us to austerity – that is the strategy of degradation and I will not accept it.

A Comprehensive Growth Mission

During an address next week, I will place the budget in context within the broader financial revitalization on which the government will be assessed following completion of this parliament.

To accomplish the nationwide rejuvenation we seek, we must do more to promote development, to address idleness among young people and to pursue closer international cooperation with our trading partners.

Bureaucracy Reduction Effort

Our growth mission will include a renewed focus on sweeping away unnecessary regulation. Frequently it was those on the left who have favored regulation, but there is nothing forward-thinking in regulations which only function to boost the cost of living for the poorest, to slow down economic growth unnecessarily, or stop a progressive administration achieving its aims.

This is the reason I am asking the business secretary to address the category of unnecessary embellishment and unnecessary red tape that increase expenses and impede our industrial strategy.

Welfare State Modernization

Financial revitalization likewise requires that we must continue to reform the welfare state. We inherited a failing system that left children too poor to eat and which wrote off young people as incapable of employment.

We cannot tolerate either part of that ineffective right-wing framework. That is why we will do more to help young people achieve their potential.

Because if you are ignored in your early career, if you are not given the support you need to address psychological challenges, or if you are just discounted because you are experiencing cognitive variations or handicaps, then it can trap you in a cycle of joblessness and neediness for decades.

This costs the country money, is harmful to our efficiency, but considerably more crucially, it removes potential and disregards ability. Any progressive administration worthy of the name should not overlook it.

This is the reason we have appointed an ex-health minister to make practical recommendations to help young people with medical issues obtain employment, training or education – making certain they get help to thrive and not sidelined.

International Trade Enhancement

Finally, we have to do more to help our businesses conduct global commerce. No believable commercial perspective for Britain that does not position us as an open, trading economy.

We must confront the reality that the poorly executed departure agreement significantly hurt our economy. You do not need to have a PhD in economics to know that erecting unnecessary trade barriers with your biggest trading partner will hurt growth and raise the cost of living.

Thus an aspect of our economic renewal will be continuing to move towards a closer trading relationship with the EU. If we can get cheaper food, boost growth and create jobs by having a stronger connection with Europe, we should.

A Substantial Strategy for Significant Challenges

A budget based on fair choices for Britain must be backed up with a determination to achieve the economic renewal that the country needs.

By delivering a big, bold long-term plan, not a set of short-term remedies, we will renew Britain. We must become again a substantial population, with a important leadership, competent jointly to perform demanding actions to reclaim command of our destiny.

Via possessing an unambiguous objective to revitalize our commerce, our neighborhoods and our government, we will execute the modification we committed to – and then be evaluated based on it during the upcoming vote.
