National Consequences

Political Stalemate
Lawmakers from both parties are still at odds about the way to support and resume federal agencies.
Remarks from the leader of a prominent policy organization suggested that the administration had opportunities to prepare in advance to prevent benefits from running out.
“Officials were able and expected to acted weeks ago to make arrangements to utilize available money,” the statement continued. “Instead, officials could opt out to secure political leverage” as conservative leaders work to pressure Senate Democrats to approve legislation that would resume government operations.
