A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
